What is family? What is family really?
It can't be defined by any dictionary or by some card.
It's not necessarily being at every game or concert.
Or spending every second together.
Family is being there to catch each other when you fall.
It's not giving up.
It's not sitting back while others do all the work or solve your problems.
It's letting each other know that you care.
It's knowing that whatever you do, your family will still love you.
Family isn't limited to whoever is related to you by blood.
Sometimes a friend is more like family than your own dad, mom, brother or sister.
Some people call their husband, wife, kids or someone else their, "better half."
But in reality it's not any one of these people, it's who they are, what they are, when they come together that is your real "better half."
So, in conclusion, family isn't any dictionary definition or a cheesy line on a card.
Family is being there for each other when it counts, for better or for worse.
EasterRemember what you love,
you with sand in your teeth
and the feral burn of hunger
in your eyes.
God sends his regrets.
He made you grasping and slow,
in a late hour
when the wine washed low.
Remember what you love.
Fall to your knees in the toss
and the swell, quell
the appetite of the cold black sea.
Beg blessings for your home
and the salt-sick trees.
Reach what lies near:
the fat-faced child, the sweet-soft lamb;
tether the tantrum, trickle the blood.
Offer psalms to what is holy,
whisper the name of what you love
as it bobs in the bleak mad sea.
